Bob Giordano was born and raised in New York City. As a child, he spent many days drawing and painting with his father, Joseph Giordano, founder of Giordano Studios. Time was spent field sketching at New York City’s zoos as well as at the Museum of Natural History. Having this fondness for the outdoors and natural world, these venues inspired his love of nature. Whether it was hiking in the Adirondacks or venturing the coast around Long Island, he absorbed all that nature brings. An avid fisherman, he spends many hours out over Long Island Sound observing local fish, birds, and wildlife.
As an illustration major at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he concentrated on children’s book illustration incorporating his love of animals into characters that followed along in his stories. Influenced by Maurice Sendak, Richard Scarry, Dr. Suess and others, this natural world transitioned into a bit more fantasy where his illustrations no longer had to be so portrayal where a hint of fantasy could now be applied.
His father Joseph Giordano, an accomplished illustrator and fine artist, was his mentor and biggest muse. He establishing his art licensing business in 1980, Bob joined his company in 1984 and has been licensing the families designs and creating new art and expanding opportunities to bring the Giordano look to consumers at retail to this day.
