Kate Knight is an award winning Scottish designer who produces beautiful artwork in a vivid and positive style. She loves experimenting with a bright palette and her bold approach to design allows her to create imagery that is full of exciting and contrasting colors. She is always striving to produce the perfect piece of art as it helps keep her designs fresh and portfolio updated.
For as long as she can remember, Kate always wanted to be an artist. Her biggest inspiration was her Grandmother, and she has many happy childhood memories of the time they spent painting together. Kate received an Honors degree from Duncan of Jordanstone Art College in Dundee, Scotland. While at Dundee, she studied printed textiles and enjoyed the physical aspect of creating both artwork and product. However, after graduating she wanted to explore other avenues. She swapped her brush, canvas and paints for a drawing tablet and a computer, and enrolled at Heriot Watt University. There she received a Masters degree in computer aided textile design at a campus that was once known as the Scottish College of Textiles in Galashiels, the second oldest textile institution in the world. She loved the flexibility she gained from being able to adjust designs and colours so easily.
Following the completion of her Masters, she moved back to her home town of Edinburgh and set up her design studio, and her business began to flourish. She now has studio space in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre in the “Northern Quarter.” Kate currently produces and sells a small range of her own products, including art prints and cards. She also licenses her work to manufacturers worldwide.
