Steve Cakebread graduated from art school with a degree in painting and cinematography. After traveling the globe for several years, he decided to refocus his creative energy into graphics and cartooning. He was first published with a major national weekly magazine,”The Bulletin”. The Bulletin was Australia’s oldest political magazine. Its American equivalent would be “The New Yorker” It served as a launch pad for many of the countries most successful cartoonists and writers. Steve managed to secure a semi-permanent position with the magazine and was then offered a daily spot at “The Melbourne Age” newspaper where his quirky satirical cartoons delighted audiences for over five years. Steve also branched out to creating graphics for many apparel labels and advertising. He worked as an illustrator and designer for several advertising agencies before eventually finding his way into animation. The comic that he had written and drawn over five years for “Australian Surfing Life” was his entry point into that industry. He would go onto design and contribute scripts to many online animations over that period. Steve is in the process of pitching two animated projects for television. He is also currently illustrating a children’s book and continuing to work in the apparel industry. He tries to draw every single day!
